My Art & Me
My Art
Everything I see has beauty. Burl wood in the forest covered in dirt, the chemistry when resin micas react to movement and heat, and even construction materials at Home Depot. The more obscure the substrate, the more amazing the texture.
APIK means Beauty in Balinese established in 2016 in Bali Indonesia. Bali gave me a vision within the immersive artisan cultural community. That is where it all started, and I have been creating and exhibiting in Calgary, Alberta, Canada ever since.
I am a self-taught artist. I am passionate, willing to take risks, and relentless in the way I approach a new collection. The natural world has always captured my imagination. I cut, grind and sand all my own wood. The fresh smell of cedar, pine and all woods are beauty in and of itself.
I take pride in knowing that my work is one of a kind and cannot be duplicated. I love using resin as it always creates multidimensional worlds no matter what surface or project, I use it for.
& Me
I am a proud mother and wife. I am a psychologist which gives me purpose and the honour of helping people with their mental health. I’m an artist and the creator of the Apik Fine Art Gallery.
I credit having ADHD as my superpower and the reason for my passion and abilities. Creating is a heightened sensory experience that I crave, and ART is my therapy. The most exhilarating feeling is when I am using all my senses at once. I love the way my brain works! I crave novelty, new visual experiences, making connections, mental leaps, flow, hyperarousal and focus all at the same time.
